Triad at 50 – Celebrating 50 Years of Professional Excellence

Looking back over the last 50 years, Triad has contributed greatly to the development of the architectural profession in Kenya. Its alumni have set up many thriving architectural practices throughout the region, benefiting from their experience in Triad. We have looked at some of them.

Kimeu Musau is a leading Environmental Design architect and a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Department of Architecture. He is also the founder of the firm Musau Kimeu Architects. Among his other projects, Kimeu is the design architect of the Catholic University of East Africa which we have featured separately in this edition.

F.G. Mungai is the founding director of AAKI Consultants. He has designed landmark buildings like Nginyo Towers, Nairobi Hospital Doctor’s Plaza and the City Cabanas among many others. He has also served in various boards in various capacities.

Lee Karuri is the founder director of Dimensions Architects and Interior Designers. Some of his projects include Brook House School, the All Saints Cathedral and Runda Park among others. He has held many positions of power on various boards and organizations. Another of Karuri’s companies, Home Africa, is a leading real estate development company that has left a mark in the local real estate sector. The company was recently listed in the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

Tom Bowman is a leading architect in the region who has designed many signature buildings in Nairobi. He is arguably the ‘shopping mall’ architect having designed the Westgate, Junction and Galleria shopping malls among others.

Edward Kirathe is the Chief Executive Officer of Acorn Group Ltd. He is a project manager by profession, with over thirteen years of experience in the construction industry. Edward worked as an architect at Triad Architects for five years.

The editor of BUILDesign magazine is also an alumni of Triad Architects.
