Nairobi Institute of Technology – NIT

The Nairobi Institute of Technology is a privately owned and managed mid-level educational institution. It was established in 1997 and registered under section 5(2) education act Cap 2, Laws of Kenya.

As required by law for all mid-level training institutions, collaborating with Universities, NIT has applied for accreditation and validation of its programmes by the Commission for Higher Education in Kenya. On Accreditation, NIT will attain a higher placement in the education institutional hierarchy. This could eventually lead to authority to offer degree programmes.

NIT was established with the objective of offering training in technical fields to young persons graduating from high schools. Over the years, the institution has grown to the present level at which higher level education in the technical professions is being considered. Today NIT has a population of more than 300 students enrolled in the various programmes and is a registered training and examination center for programmes owned by the Government of Kenya and institutions of higher learning.

In the year 2002, NIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to enable NIT offer the University Diploma in Architecture programme. Students passing with credit and above in this six-semester programme are admitted into the third year degree in Architecture programme at the university.

In the year 2003, NIT and JKUAT signed another MoU allowing NIT to host the University Degree in Architecture programme. This programme has not been commenced at NIT yet. The MoU is still valid. In 2004, NIT and JKUAT signed the third MoU for the hosting of the Diploma and Certificate in Information Technology programmes of the University. Graduates of the Diploma programme attaining Credit and above join the B.Sc. programme at second year.
