The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) has had a long desire to undertake a detailed study of the development control framework in Kenya with a view to adopting policy recommendations for informing its advocacy activities.
In this connection, AAK has recently received support from the Business Advocacy Fund (BAF).
The study is expected to meet the current demands of the industry, changing dynamics of development, and to set the Association on course to remain the premier advocate for a well built and sustainable environment, in line with Kenya Vision 2030.
Presently, therefore the AAK wishes to commission a study to review the existing development control systems in Kenya’s local authorities and other related public and private agencies, with a view to developing appropriate policy frameworks and also to act as a basis for continued engagement between Government and non – governmental institutions.
Are we not repeating the same thing year after year? Last year the ministry of housing had a set of rules online for the National Planning and building Authority – Planning and Building Regulations 2009. It was a 5 volume document regulating Planning, Spacing, Materials, Services and Safety of all buildings in Kenya. Are we not replicating reports and recommendations or is AAK just interested in having its own initiative?
i beg to disageree with this approach. just look at the qualifications needed by AAK for one to be eligible to do this research!
they only look at the ACADEMIC angle of things. that’s why their solutions are ONLY GOOD ON PAPER. and are kenyans good at RESEARCHING and WRITING THEORETICAL PAPERS or what?
