East Africa is a great platform with a high growth rate for international manufacturers of security equipment. There is a considerable number of wealthy customers who are willing to pay for their private security.
Especially international organizations, embassies, government bodies, NGO´s, major enterprises, banks and media as well as middle class and upper class society together with expatriates are potential clients of security companies.
In furtherance of the spirit of cooperation in East Africa, member States of the East African Community (EAC) signed a Protocol on peace and security with the main objective of promoting peace, security and stability within the community and good neighborliness among the partner States in February 2013. Member States also agreed to establish an early warning mechanism to facilitate the anticipation, preparedness and early responses to prevent, contain and manage conflict and crisis situations in the area of cooperation. This signed Protocol further cements the existing cooperation framework.
Nairobi is the hub for international organizations. Important clients of security technology are private firefighting companies including civil protection. Another important business is the protection of cash in transit whose demand has increased in the past. Another potential topic within East and Central Africa is electronic locating of vehicles. Only Kenya consists of about 2.000 registered security oriented companies.
Projects like “The New Terminal of Nairobi Airport, Mining, Wind Parks and various Major Constructions” wait in the wings and turn their main focus of attention to high professional security technology.

5 reasons for Kenya & Africa
- 85 Mio. manufacturing jobs will leave Asia within the next ten years. Africa will be ready to takeover.
- Africa will be the new demographic powerhouse. All continents will grow older, and many economies will have a shrinking working population. Africa on the other hand is still young and the working age population is rapidly expanding.
- By 2033, half of Kenya’s population will be urban, i.e. living in (big) cities. Studies show that doubling city size is associated with a productivity increase of an average of 6 percent.
- Kenya speaks the world’s leading language -Englishand the business community largely benefits from a good labor force.
- Compared to Europe, Africa’s macroeconomic policies look excellent! For example, Kenya’s debt level of around 45 percent of GDP would propel it to one of the top performers in the European Union.
