The BUILDesign Magazine Panel made a presentation in the just concluded CIBEX 2015 Expo at KICC on 28th February 2015. The panel consisted of Architects Eric Kigada, George Arabbu and Martin Tairo.

The panel made a very strong case for walking as a means of transportation in the city and challenged the authorities to make concerted efforts in promoting this form of commute.

“Walking will be the easiest way for achieving equality in the city. We cannot make everyone own a car by 2030, and by all means we shouldn’t. But we can make it safe, stylish and attractive to walk for everyone,” – Arch. George Arabbu
“The pedestrian has always been taken for granted, and considered last. Their paths built when the main road is complete. We have not seen a budget in place or a major path/walkway built specifically for pedestrians.” – Arch. Martin Tairo
“Mobility is a right for city residents. When you leave your house, you should have a range of choices available for you, whether you want to walk, ride a bike, take the train, use a bus or even your private car. All these should be available.” – Arch Eric Kigada
