DETAILED DESIGN AND TENDER DOCUMENTATION FOR TOURIST ROADS IN ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK AND MT. KENYA NATIONAL PARK – KENYA
The assignment shall be carried out by three key experts who shall be assisted through targeted input by a number of other experts. The experts should be currently employed in the respective professions, and must have excellent computer skills, fluency and excellent writing skills in English language.
Key expert 1: Team Leader /Highways Engineer (Senior Category – 45 days input)
Education: Must possess a University Degree (Civil Engineering or equivalent) and be a member of a recognized professional body.
General professional experience: Minimum 15 years relevant postgraduate experience in the field of design and construction of roads which a minimum 5 years experience should be in Developing Countries.
Specific professional experience: Must have practical experience with geometric design and tender documentation for rural road networks. Must be familiar with hydrological study and flood estimation techniques, and sizing of standard pipe and box culvert structures. Experience with EDF contract procedures for works is desirable but not mandatory.
Key expert 2: Materials Engineer (Senior Category – 20 days input)
Education: University Degree in Civil Engineering and be a member of a recognized professional body
General professional experience: Minimum 10 years postgraduate working experience
Specific professional experience: At least 5 years consolidated experience in pavement design and construction of rural road infrastructure projects in Developing countries, including all-weather gravel surfaced roads, low-cost sealed roads and roller compacted concrete pavements.
Key expert 3: Environmental expert / (Senior Category – 15 days input)
Education: Masters University Degree in Environmental science and be a member of a recognized professional body
General professional experience: Minimum 10 years postgraduate working experience
Specific professional experience: At least 5 years consolidated experience in carrying out environmental studies in National Parks or ecosystems of high biodiversity value. Must have prior working experience with environmental management laws of Kenya or other country in the East African region.
The Consultant shall select and hire other experts as required according to the following profiles:
• Topographical Surveyor (Junior Category – 30 days input)
Experience: Familiarity with survey coordinate systems and regulations in force in Kenya would be an added advantage.
• Transport Economist (Junior Category – 10 days input)
Experience: Prior experience in economic evaluation of road infrastructure projects in East African region would be an added advantage. Must be experienced in HDM IV applications.
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) Design Technician (Junior Category – 30 days input)
Experience: Computer aided design experience
