On 15 March 2018, Women In Real Estate (WIRE) in collaboration with The Architectural Association of Kenya’s Quantity Surveyors Chapter (AAK-QS) and The Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK) hosted Legends and Leaders Breakfast a premier awards and networking event, at Jacaranda Hotel to acknowledge women for Taking on Leadership and contributing tremendously to the Built Environment, celebrate their milestones and discuss the way forward.
The events’ multipronged agenda comprised of
- Keynote address by Dr. Arch. Diana Lee Smith, a cofounder of Mazingira Institute. She spoke about contributions women make as leaders in the Built Environment. Diana Lee Smith was honored with a Life Time Achievement Award at the Breakfast.
- A themed panel discussion around #PressforProgress, the International Women Day(Month) theme. An informative dialogue on how you commit to specifically concentrate on to press for progress for gender parity in your own sphere of influence
The late Arch. Mariam El Mawwy, Permanent Secretary, Lands was honored with a Life Time Achievement Award posthumously.
The panelists include; Caroline Waiyaki, Kittony Waiyaki Advocates, Grace Kagondu, Structural Engineer, Arch. Martin Tairo director Architecture Kenya Media Limited, QS. Olivia Sally Otieno, Mwembe & Mwembe Consultants, Arch. Winnie Ngumi, C.E.O Space and Style, Arch. Etta Madete, Graduate Architect, Hildah Nganga, Real Estate Consultant and Nancy Muthoni TV Host and Moderator for the discussion.
The event was be marked by an awarding ceremony for various women who were nominated as Legends and Leaders in Entrepreneurship, Social Impact and Public Service Category.
WIRE provides a network for women serious about making the most of their careers in The Built Environment; as well as an environment where women can discover the keys to success in business and network with like-minded professionals. The association also provides networking and mentoring for aspiring young professionals as well as inspiration for girls to enter the built environment career.
